In the late19th century, in some small town of Japan, lived a Christian minister and principle of a small university. This person was Mikao Usui, an honest and religious man. Besides teaching, he also used to preach the religious teachings of the bible. During one of his sermons, he was narrating the miraculous feats of Jesus Christ and the way Jesus provided miraculous healings to the needy through his loving touch and by sprinkling holy water. One of the listeners Mr. Usui questioned the genuineness of this narration, because such divine healings were no longer to be seen. Mr. Usui had no answer to these questions, and all he could say was that he himself believed whatever he had narrated to be true because it was so written in the bible. Being an honest man, however, he realized that he was preaching only blind faith and decided for himself that he would not preach again until he had found the answers to the questions raised by the man. He resigned from his job, traveled westwards enrolling himself at various places for deep studies in the religious field. It was this plunge that generated deep religious understandings for Mikao Usui and the level of his knowledge in this field was equivalent to that of any doctorate qualification.

It was during these studies that Dr. Mikao Usui realized that all of these religious studies were not sufficient to gather the facts he was searching for in his quest. During his studies, he had learnt that Gautam Buddha also used to perform similar miraculous feats. Dr. Mikao Usui returned back to Japan and continued his pursuit by now plunging into Buddhism. In his quest, Dr. Usui traveled all over Japan, and then moved on to China, Tibet and India. It was in India that he learnt that thousands of years back, the teachings upon this subject were available in India in some gurukulas and ashrams. These teachings used to be provided by theVedic Rishis and quite a few acharyas and gurus, who were adept in this system. Similar to many of the practical examples of miraculous healings that he had come across in the religious scriptures of Christianity and Buddhism, many examples were also available for reading in this land also, and these references were even older than any of the earlier examples that he had come across. Here, in India, Dr. Usui also came across coded references to this system in the Vedas and the Lotus Sutra. Here, in India, it dawned upon Dr. Usui that the legendary figures being worshipped as deities and lords on this land, were in fact the greatest masters of this system and these greatest masters were created by the Rishis, saints, mahatmas and acharyas, who were also great masters. Rama, Krishna, Hanuman, Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, Mahaveera and Guru Nanak could all be classified as the legendary great masters of this system. There were many others too, like the Pandavas, Kauravas, Ravana, Kabirdas, Tukaram, Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Shirdi Sai Baba, etc., who had attained mastery of the system. There were many more that had not been heard of, but who also had mastery in this system. Dr. Usui realized that this land had the know-how of the most elite system, which had ever existed, and now it was up to him to search and locate the rare master of this system, who could bless and transfer this system to him.

All these years in the spiritual field had provided Dr. Usui with a great depth of knowledge of spirituality. Yet he knew that his search was incomplete, the knowledge gained was insignificant within the context of his basic search. He did not know how could he actually be empowered in similar lines of the above-referred great masters. He knew that if he could locate an actual master and be blessed - that was it. Dr. Usui continued to meet many of the proclaimed spiritual masters and spiritual healers of this land of spirituality. Yet he knew because of the knowledge that he had gathered for himself, that these were not what he was looking for. From Dr. Usui's point of view, all of these proclaimed masters and healers were only symbolic of the specialized aspects of the whole and not symbolic of the whole.

As the search continued, Dr. Usui reached a small town about 400 kms from Mumbai and observed with his very eyes miraculous feats being regularly executed by a very ordinary looking person, whose very identity was itself not known to perfection to anyone, leave aside being proclaimed as a master. This ordinary looking person seemed to have great knowledge of spirituality even though being uneducated. When he spoke about religious practices, the focus was always focused on the spirit of unity, in within the diversity. He used to beg for alms for his basic requirements, and was oblivious to being referred to as a fakir, a Sufi saint, a Swami or a beggar. He could provide miraculous healings - ailments, pains, and diseases would vanish by his loving touch or by the pious water or ash that he would provide. Just through his mere intention people far away from the place also were getting equally benefited. He could use water as fuel for lighting his lamp whenever oil was not available with him; he was unaffected by the fire burns; his ordinary shelter was unaffected by the gale and storms. Dr. Mikao Usui knew for certain that this ordinary looking person was an Avatar, and that his search was now over. Dr. Usui had actually come across one of the world's greatest masters of this system. For Dr. Usui, all that was left to be done was to be blessed somehow by this great master and thus receive the empowerments.

This great master further told Dr. Usui that all these years; Dr. Usui was in quest of the Brahma Gyana - the universal knowledge. For this, it is mandatory to study and practice the Brahma Vidya - the universal education. Only utilizing the Brahma Prana - the universal life force energy, upon self and others, could do this. It was further stressed to Dr. Usui that in this three-tier system, the beginning is always at the level of working with Brahma Prana. As one continues to work with brahmaprana, the Brahma Sutras - the universal keys, get revealed which convey the Brahma Shastras - the universal science, in accordance to which the brahmaprana functions. As the practice proceeds further, the brahmaprana leads one into the depths of the brahmavidya and as the practice proceeds further, the brahmavidya leads one to brahmagyana. Thus, Dr. Mikao Usui got blessed by the great master and got re-directed to Japan, and it was conveyed to him that all further instructions and empowerments should be made available to him at Japan.

This experience continued for some time and then he experienced being surrounded totally by sparkling shining bright white light which turned into shining golden light and then into different shining colors. Then he experienced being drawn into the blackness and seemed to lose track of the happenings. After a while, he could again experience the white light around him. At the same time, he could listen to the sound of the ringing bells and different other cosmic sounds. This experience also continued for a while. Then the brahmasutras got revealed to him. As these sutras were getting revealed, he could also hear someone explaining the detailed aspects of these sutras to him. Later this voice also faded out and the entire build-up of the words began to surface out from within himself. He could understand the importance of these sutras and could understand why this knowledge was kept secretive centuries after centuries. He could understand how the healing keys could be developed from these sutras, how the symbols could be formulated which could later be utilized for healing purpose; he could understand how this knowledge could be transferred to anyone else and how much of this knowledge be transferred by him to anyone else and how anyone else could be empowered into this eternal active energy field.
